What does a physiotherapist do?

Specialist in postures and movements
Give advices
Treatment
Guidance

A physiotherapist (or physical therapist) is a specialist in posture and movement. Walking, standing, bending, jumping, you take it for granted until you get a problem. This can be caused by sporting, working, an accident or illness, a ‘wrong’ movement or simply because the body is getting older.
A physiotherapist can give you advices, treatment and guidance to help you to continue your daily routine as good as possible.

At the first appointment the physiotherapist will ask you questions and examines you to get better insight in your physical problem. What follows is a plan for treatment which is specifically for you, because every problem is different and every body reacts differently.

With proper guidance you’ll learn responsible movement. In that way you’ll be aware of what’s good and what is causing the problems, so you’ll prevent repeating or worsening the problems. That’s the best for you in the long run. The goal is that you can do as much as possible independently. It’s important that you cooperate in reducing the problems. By doing exercises. And by telling what you’re feeling and asking for explanation if there’s anything unclear. Good communication between yourself and your physiotherapist will add to your recovery.
